Research and development of the LSP™ process

In real life
The AnoxKaldnes LSP™ process has proven to result in significantly reduced sludge production for a number of effluents. An additional bonus of this process innovation has been much improved sludge separability and dewaterability.
Development areas
The development work within AnoxKaldens is now focused on:
- Using the LSP™ process for other types of wastewater.
- Limiting the release of nutrients.
At present the application of LSP™ technology to various pulp and paper mill effluents has been well established. Studies of LSP™ process has also been made on municipal wastewater. The modification of extended aeration processes using LSP™ technology is currently under investigation.
The release of nutrients in the second stage of the LSP™ process is due to the consumption of bacteria by protozoa. This release has to be managed to maintain low effluent nutrient levels. When nutrient discharge limits are strict; a nutrient limited BAS™ process is generally a better option to reduce the sludge production.
